Lewis and Sandy Gottschalk

LEWIS GOTTSCHALK. This short film is a narrated slideshow celebrating the 70th birthday on 12 Feb 2013 of Lewis Gottschalk, a South African accountant; father of four and husband to Sandy for 27 years.

Lewis asked us to create a short Life Story for an event to commemorate his 70th. He wanted to give an overall view of his life so far. So we thought a “narrated slideshow’ would do the trick.  We loved creating it and editor Charlene Waite did a fantastic job.

Lewis grew up in the magical Hex Rivier region near Worcestor in the Western Cape Winelands. His parents owned a general dealership and times were tough in the early days.  As a child Lewis used to count the change in his parents store. An experience, he proudly says, that more than likely  steered him towards a career as an accountant.

In this Life Story you’ll meet the people in Lewis’s life. You’ll see the places and hear some of the stories that have special meaning for Lewis. It’s certainly been an interesting journey from Hex Rivier to the beautiful home he has today overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on Cape Town’s coast.  Many happy returns Lewis and thanks for the inspiration!  A special thank you to Russ Nerwich for his beautiful music in the immigration section of the film.

Hi Lewis: I found this website via Facebook and an upcoming celebration for Abe Immerman who was a cousin of my dad’s. Watching the video brought back many memories for me. I also attended Sea Point Boy’s junior and High and remember your’s and Eli’s young faces from my time there. I graduated in 1966 a few years behind you. Loved the 2 sport’s photos and recognize some of the faces, including both Basie and Mr. Williamson. Many memories from those days. Not sure if you would remember this, but I was a member of the Beathoven 5 – we won Battle of the Bands in 1965. Happy Birthday and continue to lead a young and enthusiastic life.

I found this website because my maternal grandmother was Melanie Haenel Schwind. Her sister was Hilda Haenel Gottschalk. They were both born in East Germany. Might that Hilda Gottschalk be the same as Lewis Gottschalk’s mother? I believe Melanie was the oldest of 8 or 10 children and Hilda was her younger sister. It would be interesting to find out if we have relatives in South Africa. My family lives in Jacksonville, Florida, United States.

thank you so much lisa, for all your time, patience and understanding, that you have given to lewis and i, whilst filming lewis’s amazing lifestory!
you are so easy to work with, so patient, calm and serene, funny, thoughtful, strong and brave enought, to gently go where others will not!!
we will cherish this piece of film for ever, and ever, and so will all the members of our family, and our wish, is that they will pass it on, from generation to generation, and perhaps one day, have their own copy of their life stories made, so that the ledgend of our family, stays on in their lives for ever!
    kol hakovod to you!
